“It is a curious thought, but it is only when you see people looking ridiculous that you realize just how much you love them.”

Agatha Christie

This explains why my wife loves me, even though she’s seen me dance.

My wife taking a photo in a winery. I liked the shape (always have) and wanted to capture backlit moment.

It could have been better if I had her pose, but candid is nice too.

More silhouette pictures.

Agreed. (and an Irish Kate at that)

They say happiness is being married to your best friend

and so 9 years ago today, I did. We’ve been Double Ring Roommates ever since.

Oh, it wasn’t that pragmatic. It took me a bit to get over the fear of getting engaged, but once that was done, I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else. I still can’t.

I didn’t know what life would be like years down the road (who does?) but I’m glad that she’s been along for the adventure.

I’m glad to be married to Kate because she’s just as fun and playful now as she was when I first met her. She listens to my stories, dreams, and goals (and the mundane stuff too).

She’s put up with the times when I’m indecisive and uncertain (though these are much rarer as I’ve grown to trust her support), sleepy, and worried.

She has magically turned a house into a home and two little boys into young (but growing quickly!) men. She’s watched as I’ve turned into a better man (because of her). She believes in me; at times more than I believe in myself. She trusts me with our family — both leadership and providing — which is a huge honor.

She has the respect of many others, whether she sees it or not, though I’m not surprised at all. I’m always proud to have her beside me.

Oh, and she looks dead sexy playing a guitar.

Things that get better with age: Beatles music, maple trees, OU’s football tradition, and my marriage to Kate.

Unrelated: I don’t know who these kids are, but I thought the post could use a picture.

Luke and Kate at a year

And her post today? Probably the sweeting thing anyone’s ever said about me. Thanks wife :-) I love you deeply…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Benefit of going to Ireland? Kissing the Blarney Stone, of course. If you’ve noticed that I’ve been more eloquent since last Summer, that’s why. If you haven’t noticed, you haven’t been paying attention :-)

Not only does the stone and castle promote elocution, but it clearly makes people very happy.

Entering Mandy’s photography contest on a picture that makes me happy. This is a picture from a family beach vacation in 2006.

This picture makes me happy because it shows a mother’s love. There is a transcendental moment while witnessing a clear example of motherly love that can [unfortunately] be missed. Here’s a time when I caught it. This moment, while making me happy in itself, combines several other sources of happiness for me: my best friend, her hair (separate items), my 5 month old son, new experiences, and the beach.

It’s beautiful, and beauty makes me happy.

Stream of consciousness Saturday (SoCoS)

Per complykated’s lead, here’s my contribution to the new movement

Gorillas

Gorillas. I like gorillas. I like people that like gorillas, but I think that Jane Goodall (of whatever her name was) is a little creepy. I’m not sure that I could live with gorillas for years and years, though I did live in the boys dorms for several years, and that’s close tp the same thing I guess. At least the smell and the behavior is, but we didn’t have many people throwing poop. I also like the group gorillas, but it is spelled with a z at the end. We heard a song of theirs while at Randy’s M&M that I tagged on my iphone and have since bought the album. Randy’s, while once a great place to get cheap video rentals, is not a liquor store. I wonder what gorillas would be like when they’re drunk. Probably hbhb not much different than what they are now. I don’t know. hbhbhb I like gorillas at the zoo, especially those with the silver hair on their backs. I’m glad that I don’t have hair on my back, at least for now, though I realize that at some point it will probably happen to me like it happens to most people. Hopefully I’ll be able to contain it when it does happen. I wonder sometimes if Gorillas were to take, hey Charlton Heston was fighting gorillas or apes ro something. I never saw that movie, but I did see him in the 10 Commandments and in Tombstone, and a Bud Light commercial. Makes me wonder about gorillas and alcohol, but I see we’ve already been there.

about a girl

complykated has spunky hair, a contagious smile, guitar aspirations, the recipe experimentation bug, interesting conversations, a body younger than her age, and great mom skills.

Oh, and she’s an über travel agent.

If I weren’t married, I’d totally go after her…
