Mrs. Williamson, my 11th grade English teacher,* had a spiel one day about how the compound word judgment has no ‘e’ but it was added later on into dictionaries by the lazy and ignorant of society.

When I saw this sign in San Francisco, I had to wonder if they had the same teacher. Ironic, somewhat, that people pass judgment over the word.

* She also wrote in a crazy type of shorthand where one character seemed to stand for a sentence and she spoke angrily sometimes in her own language. But we loved her just the same.

They’d been coming to Buca di Beppo for years; longer than either could remember. She enjoyed the fact that their takeout was “Flavorful”. He appreciated the air conditioning, an amenity once worthy of neon immortalization.

The neighborhood had changed in the prior decades. She didn’t remember seeing these women with their head scarves and he didn’t understand the motorcycles and why their riders were always in a hurry. But the neighborhood was theirs and they liked it.

But more than the neighborhood and their favorite restaurant, they liked each other. He looked cautiously at the traffic coming down the one-way street. He was more cautious than he used to be but he needed too be; cane always in hand, feet shuffling more than walking, the world speeding up every day. But then there was her: his bride.

Her spine bent with age, a little more than last year. She needed her cane more than he did. She remembered feeling straight and lively and pretty. He didn’t mind at all. Needing each other as much as ever, they grasped for wrinkled hands — as they had done thousands of time before — and slowly made their way across the street.

(Disclaimer: the photo is real the narrative above is pure conjecture :-)

This sign is strange to me. Do they speak Spanish 92.873% of the time they communicate or is that the percentage of Spanish-speaking opportunities while they’re open?

And why capitalize Time?

Ojala que usted no venga durante el 7,127 por ciento.

Oh yeah, pickup-note-writer? Well I’m gonna love my girl for forever and 3 days.

Just kidding. I think it’s sweet.

Checking out the menu at the local Thai place. Didn’t know it even had shells. Is that a good price?

That prosthetic leg looks suspicious to me. Thanks TSA for keeping us safe.

Fortunately it looks like support for a tiered screening risk system at airports is growing. Under the current plan, people could pay to be on a trusted list and get a green light, be considered ‘regular’, or risky.

Sounds like classism and profiling to me, but a better experience for all (unless you’re risky).

We went to Bricktown last summer on a hot July day, but the event we planned on attending wasn’t what we thought. So we sauntered over to the parking lot north of Chileno’s where a Bikers and Blues (or something) festival was going on. George sat in the heat watching the blues, and was probably wishing for a nap in an air-conditioned bedroom.

There’s a healthy and appropriate debate about whether we should take Christ out of Christmas.

But please, don’t take R out of Christian (Especially if your child is graduating from university).

I have no doubts that I’d love girls, if I were so blessed.

I do, however, greatly enjoy having boys.
